Which Folder Should I Submit To?
A common question nearly every group on deviantART must face. Alas! We have folder descriptions provided for you so the question can be answered~
Featured: This folder holds deviations that were created with much love, skill, and effort. Only group admins shall decide what will go into this folder, but we are always willing to listen to suggestions. If you have any ideas, send a message. Also, do not be discouraged if your artwork is not selected. Think of it as motivation to keep practicing so that you, too, can view your art in the Featured folder.
Digital Fan Art: Simple! If the character was not created in your lovely little brain and it was drawn on your computer, then clearly this is the folder for you. This applies to OCs that belong to other deviants!!
(Limit: 1 per month)
Traditional Fan Art: Same as the prior folder, except the deviation is drawn using mediums such as markers, pens, pencils, paints, etc.
(Limit: 1 per month)
Digital Original Art: Original characters that were meticulously hand-crafted in your devious little minds, but were drawn using an art program on the computer. So let's say you've drawn a character that was created by another in an alternate outfit or as a commission\art trade\whatnot. Guess what? That does NOT go here!
(Limit: 1 per month)
Traditional Original Art: Again, same as above, the only exception being the medium used to create the deviation.
(Limit: 1 per month)
Cosplay: Oh, come now! If you're thinking about submitting to this folder then clearly you know what it is, yeah? It's when you dress up as a character, and flaunt your skills by taking a photo of it!
(Limit: 1 per month)
Tutorials: Helpful tips and guides for up-and-coming artists that just don't know which skills they need to develop. Study sketches are also welcomed in this folder depending on the subject.
(Limit: 1 per week)
Linearts and Bases: Don't really feel like drawing anything? Why not try a line art? It could boost your coloring skills! Anyways, line arts are specifically drawn using an art program, and/or pen or a fine marker. NOT PENCIL. Just saying. I don't know why we have bases included in this folder. I've never seen any in there. Oh yeah! If you color in a line art please post in this folder, as well! Credit to the original artist is required.
(Limit: 1 per month)
Original Manga Pages: Okay, this is a MAJOR one! If you have colored in a page from a manga or even drew something in a likeness to a page, YOU MUST POST IT HERE. Yes, I understand that it is technically fan art as well, but that is NOT the point. You did not draw it. You are not the creator of the manga. Give credit where it's due.
On another note, if you have some of your own original manga pages you'd like to upload here we'd be more than happy to feature it in this folder. Anything to help out an up-and-coming manga-ka, right?
(Limit: 1 per week)
Doujinshi: Sort of like fanfiction only it's in comic/manga form. So if you want to share a few exclusive pages and scenes we're totally okay with that!
(Limit: 1 per week)
Fanfictions and Stories: Do I really need to explain this one? Guys?? Anyone?! *sigh* Okay. This folder is specifically for written pieces. You must add a disclaimer if it is a fanfiction, otherwise we will remove your work from our gallery. Just a note, if there is explicit material add a filter, please. Some members don't really want to read all that sexual or gory stuff. Same applies to original stories. If you need any help with editing or anything of the sort post a comment on the page, and we'll (well, I will) be more than happy to lend you a helping hand.
(Limit: 2 per month; since we don't get many anyways)
Handmade Crafts: Paper children, keychains, buttons, posters, plushes, pillows, bags, sneaker art, food, ANYTHING!! If it is hand-crafted by YOU and YOU ONLY, then please submit to this folder.
(Limit: 1 per week)
Contest Entries: If and when we decide to have a contest this is the folder you would submit to. Simple as that!
(Limit: 1 per week)
In regards to Mixed Media, the way to solve that dilemma is to take a few seconds to look at your work. Ask yourself: Is it more digital or traditional? Another tip, if the character is drawn and colored using traditional utensils, then submit it into one of the traditional folders. If you just did a little editing to clean it up we will still take it as traditional art, as well.
Also, if your artwork ever gets declined, consider whether it could truly fall into the "anime" category.
As always...
